What are ridge tiles?

When does the cement on ridge tiles become porous?
The lifespan of roof mortar, or cement, is approximately 30 years. When the cement becomes porous depends greatly on your location and living environment. Moisture remains longer on the shady side of your roof, causing the cement to wear out faster than on the sunny side. The shady side is often covered with green moss. On the sunny side, on the other hand, you will see a lighter form of moss: lichen. Both types of moss accelerate the wear and tear of your roof tiles or mortar.
